1. Complete and submit the online RFR Template Request Workbook
Complete the form to let us know about the structure of your dealership.
2. Receive a custom Identity Theft Prevention Program (ITPP) template (in editable .doc format)
After you submit the RFR Template Request Workbook, AFIP will generate your customized template within two weeks using the information you provided about your dealership.
3. Review and edit the template as needed to fit the unique needs of your dealership
While you may be able to use the ITPP as is, you may have specific circumstances at your dealership that require minor modifications from some protocols. With our template, changes are easy to make.
When you receive your customized ITPP template, the Corporate Compliance Officer, dealer principal, board of directors and your corporate counsel should review it to ensure it covers everything. Your attorney and board of directors should sign off (in writing) on the finished program.
4. Participate in Personnel Orientation sessions hosted by AFIP
AFIP provides conference call orientation sessions for relevant personnel (anyone who’s listed in the RFR Template Request Workbook as having duties under the Red Flags Rule). Sessions will be held on a regular basis (you can view the schedule and instructions on signing up on our review calendar).
5. Implement and abide by the ITPP
The ITPP only works if you actually implement and abide by it – and if the FTC does audit your dealership, just handing them a printout of your program won’t suffice. After your employees are trained, it is vital that the Corporate Compliance Officer ensure they follow it to the letter during each and every transaction.
